Don’t Confuse Skin Dryness with Wrinkles.

Dry skin can appear more wrinkled, but actual wrinkles are not due to dry skin. They are caused by damage to the under-layers of the skin due to aging, sun exposure and smoking.

So a good mosturiser and drinking plenty of water will hydrate and protect your skin but make sure you use a good sunscreen if you are out and about, even on cloudy or winters days, and give up smoking!

If you have weak or brittle nails apply a nail strengthener every day for a week, just apply a new layer on top of the previous days coat.

Then remove and leave  your nails to rest for a few days before repeating for another seven days.

File your nails into a square shape instead of an oval as this will keep the sides strong and help prevent splits and tears.

Freeze Out Cold Sores!

Filed under: Cosmetics Advice — admin @ 7:36 pm

Now the weather is getting colder those of us who suffer from cold sores are dreading feeling that first tingle. We know that can mean days of a painful and unsightly blemish.

But cold sores can be prevented. As soon as you feel that tell tale tingle hold an ice cube on the tingling spot and leave it there as long as you can, preferably until it is all gone.

This is easier said than done but if you can really freeze the area then you have a good chance of stopping the cold sore in its tracks. The most essential thing is to catch it immediately you feel the tingle. Pop into the nearest pub if you are out and about.

Face Powder Facts.

Filed under: Cosmetics Advice — admin @ 8:25 am

Face Powder has a bit of an old fashioned reputation. Many people these days wonder if there is any benefit to using it. The reality is that there are several very good reasons for using powder.

Most importantly, powder sets your foundation and makes it last. It also adds a matte finish that always looks fresh, professional and chic.

Powder can make the skin texture seem finer, as it makes the pores look smaller. Last, but not least, powder removes any stickiness created by foundation or concealer.

After powdering, eye shadow or blusher can be applied and blended easily on silky smooth skin.

It is very important to ensure that the powder you use does not change the colour of your foundation. If you have managed to match your foundation to your skin colour you won’t want to spoil it now by applying a powder that contains too much colour, especially not pink.

Loose Translucent Powder

Loose powder is often the product of choice for professional make up artists. Most loose translucent powders available are not really translucent as they will contain a small amount of colour but generally a translucent powder will fight less with your foundation than a specific shade.

Loose powder has the advantage that it does not build up on the skin and create a heavy, caked look. It is very light and if too much is applied it can easily be dusted away with a large, soft brush.

Pressed Powder

The one distinct advantage of pressed powder is that it is much less messy to carry around in your handbag than loose powder. For this reason, it can sometimes be handy for quick touch-ups during the course of the day.

You also generally have a wider range of shades to choose from than is the case with loose powder. Best results will come if you choose a shade as close as possible to the colour of your foundation and use very sparingly.

The classic pressed powder is Max Factors Crème Puff, available in eight shades. Maybelline, L’Oreal, and Constance Carroll also offer a variety of excellent ranges.

A fairly recent development is multi-toned face powder like the Saffron Multi-Toned Pressed Powder. The advantage of this is that it avoids the rather flat, one dimensional tone that can sometimes results from using conventional tinted pressed powder. Your complexion is not one colour all over your face, there is a natural shading that occurs and multi-tone powders aim to mimic this, giving a more natural look.

The disadvantage of pressed powder is that it tends to build up on the skin if applied repeatedly so be aware of this when touching up during the day.

Always use a large brush to apply face powder rather than the sponges or puffs supplied with the product as this will give a much better, more even coverage and you are much less likely to use too much.

Face powder really can be the finishing touch to your make up so it is worth taking the time to perfect your techniques and trying out several products until you find the one that suits you.
